European Citizens’ Panel makes recommendations for a new EU budget

Joint meeting of the EU Platform on FLW and the European Citizens' Panel

On Sunday, participants from across the EU will meet in the European Citizens’ Panel to present their final recommendations for the new Multiannual Financial Framework to the European Commission.

This will be the third and final session of the European Citizens’ Panel on the new EU budget. 150 randomly selected citizens from the 27 Member States have been part of this Panel, coming together since last March to answer the question ‘What priorities and actions funded by the EU bring the most added value to Europeans?’. Their recommendations will be taken into account in shaping the future long-term EU budget. This Panel is part of the Commission’s wider effort to engage with citizens on the future of the new long-term EU budget, which it will propose in July 2025.

In parallel, the Citizens’ Engagement Platform, an online discussion forum, is open for contributions from the general public on the new EU budget until the end of May 2025. These contributions will also feed into the Panel deliberations and the Commission’s future work in the field. The plenary sessions of the European Citizens’ Panel will be web-streamed live on Friday afternoon and Sunday morning, and citizens’ final recommendations of the citizens will be published by the Commission in the following days.

Accredited journalists are invited to join the panel in person after registering with COMM-CITIZENS-PANELSatec [dot] europa [dot] eu (COMM-CITIZENS-PANELS[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu) (spots are limited).
Further information on the European Citizens’ Panel on the new EU budget is available on the dedicated website.
